Slumdog surprise Oscar nominee

Nominations for the musical awards at the Oscars this year have been revealed with surprise success movie Slumdog Millionaire and animated film Wall-E both fighting for the best score award.

The two films are the only contenders in the best original song category with Jai Ho performed by Gulzar and O Saya by M.I.A being picked from Slumdog while Down to Earth sung by Peter Gabriel has been chosen from Wall-E.

It is a story of David and Goliath as the independent low budget movie Slumdog Millionaire battles it out against the big names and big money behind Disney Pixar movie Wall-E.

The 81st Academy Awards ceremony will be shown live across the world on February 22 from the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and will be hosted by Australian actor Hugh Jackman of X-men and Australia fame.
