A SUMMIT by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has confirmed that there has been a rapid slowdown of international tourism growth since mid 2008, although overall a growth in tourism during 2008 is projected by the organisation.
There was a strong start to the year but, according to the UNWTO, “tourism growth in Europe stagnated over the northern hemisphere summer months.”
Despite the current global financial situation, tourism is still faring well and has resisted the downturn better than other sectors including construction and manufacturing.
