THIEVES MADE off with more than 50 reptiles from an animal education centre in Australia at the weekend, which had been established to continue the work of conservationist, Steve Irwin.
They stole 47 blue-tongue lizards, three bearded dragons, two pythons and a 60cm long freshwater crocodile. All the reptiles require an owner’s licence, but police believe they could be sold on the black market. Some of the reptiles were later recovered, the rest are still at large.
