Slip in world rankings

Despite beating Northern Ireland in their World Cup Qualifier, Portugal have slipped to 11th place in the latest FIFA World Rankings. England have fallen to 17th, their lowest position for 12 years, after their dour 0-0 draw in the Ukraine.

Spain remain in top spot whilst Argentina have moved above Germany into second place. France has dropped two places to 25th and Belgium has risen from 10th to sixth.

World Cup 2014 host nation Brazil are in eighth place, due mainly to their lack of competitive matches. England were third in the World Rankings just 14 months ago and dropping so low will affect their World Cup seeding, meaning they will face one of the top eight teams in the world in their group should they qualify.
