Sky Sports News presenter quizzed following friend’s death plunge from Albufeira apartment

Sky Sports News host Tom White has been questioned by police after a friend he was on holiday with fell five-storeys to his death from the balcony of an Albufeira apartment block in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

White, the friend and at least one other man were understood to have been enjoying a “lads’ holiday” in the Algarve, and had been out on a “night of heavy drinking”, writes the Daily Mail.

White is reported to have told police he was asleep at the time his friend went over the balcony, and “had no idea” of what may have happened.

For now, the identity of the dead man has not been revealed, but the Mail suggests he “may also be a Sky employee”.

A source has told the UK’s Daily Record that “Tom is assisting police with their inquiries into the death of his friend. It’s all very sad and tragic”.

The incident shortly after 4am at the Janelas do Mar building in the Correeira area.

A receptionist is understood to have alerted authorities after hearing a loud noise and going outside to investigate.

The 28-year-old man is understood to have crashed through an awning before hitting the ground beside the complex’s swimming pool. Firefighters and emergency INEM crew called to the scene attempted reanimation, but death was declared where the body lay.

“We are lamenting the death of a British holidaymaker”, fire chief Francisco Abreu told the Mail.

Albufeira’s GNR has opened an investigation, though a source has admitted to Diário de Notícias that it looks like the death was a tragic accident.

The man’s body has been taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine for autopsy.
