US INFORMATION and communications company Cisco signed an agreement with the Portuguese Prime Minister José Sócrates to help bridge the anticipated skills gap in information technology (IT) in Portugal.
As a result of the agreement, the number of people studying IT is expected to grow from 3,000 currently to 10,000 by 2011 learning IT skills in academies throughout Portugal.
Cisco originally launched an academy in Portugal in 1999 and now there are more than 100 in the country to meet with educational demands.
