MAYAWATI, A five foot tall chief minister of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, has ordered officials to replace a statue of herself because it is three feet shorter than the statues of other leaders.

The original bronze statue was 12 feet tall and was a true representation of the chief but it looked out of place next to the other statues that reach 15 feet in height and has now been altered to match the others.

The combined cost of Mayawati’s statues is reported to be around 950,000 US dollars, a huge sum of money in a region notorious for its bad roads, intermittent electricity and endemic poverty.
