Sixty confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Portimão and Albufeira’s gypsy communities

The Algarve’s regional health delegate confirmed in a press conference yesterday that there are 60 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Portimão’s and Albufeira’s gypsy communities.

Ana Cristina Guerreiro said it is “perhaps the most worrying outbreak” at the moment in the Algarve, where the total of active Covid-19 cases is 620.

It is reported that the outbreak may have started due to a “pastor who carried out many religious celebrations across the region”.

Guerreiro has admitted that there may be more undetected cases in other gypsy communities in the Algarve.

However, over 200 tests have already been carried out and those who tested positive are in isolation, the health delegate guaranteed.
