Six “people’s projects” included in Lagos budget

Lagos council will be spending nearly €260,000 in 2018 on six projects presented and voted for by local citizens.

A new water pipeline will be built in Monte Lemos/Luz, while Odiáxere is due to welcome a new sports complex.

Lagos will also be made more “accessible” for people with reduced mobility and improvement work will be carried out at Largo de Santo Amaro square.

The remaining projects will see Bensafrim’s outdoor municipal market being covered and receiving improvement work, while an ‘ilha ecológica’ (a site for eco waste recycling bins) will be built in Barão de São João.

The projects are the winning ideas of the borough’s ‘Orçamento Participativo’ (OP), an initiative that is being promoted by more and more councils around the Algarve and gives residents a chance to come up with their own local projects.

Over 20 projects were presented and voted for between December 5 and January 31.
