Sintra tries to prevent a bird flu epidemic in Portugal

sintra Câmara has recently launched an information campaign, intended to educate bird owners, and farmers, about the dangers of bird flu. Within the campaign is a survey, asking bird owners to regularly list their livestock.

With regular, updated figures of livestock in each area, the government can assess if there is a potential risk of bird flu, and will be able to quarantine areas without jeopardising humans.

This aims to control the possible spread of an epidemic of bird flu nationwide. However, as the survey is not compulsory, accurate livestock figures may never be available.

Sintra Câmara is calling on all owners of birds and poultry to go to their local Junta de Freguesia, to enlist in the survey for their area.
