SINTRA CÂMARA has been considered for the Manus Cais Prize for its projects, ‘Accessible transport for All’ and ‘Workshops for the Elderly’.
Sintra was one of five câmaras to be short-listed, from countless other projects, in the Public Service Organisations Category, which awards State organisations for projects that focus on the underprivileged.
The judges commented that Sintra’s transport project was one of the most interesting in the category, but the prize was eventually won by the Caminha Câmara for a project on fighting social exclusion.
The ‘Accessible Transport for All’ project has made available a specially adapted minibus with nine seats and a lift for Sintra residents with mobility problems. The service is free and runs from Monday to Friday.
The Manus Cais Prize is given by CAIS, a non-profit making social institution founded in 1994, with the aim of helping and rehabilitating the underprivileged.
