Sines refinery produces fuel from slops

Described as a landmark moment for the company behind the initiative, Sines’ refinery has produced its first batch of ship fuel from marine fuel residues or ‘slops’ as they are better known in the trade. It gives unprocessed slops – difficult to sell in the current economic climate – a new and sustainable value, said Vincent Favier of Ecoslops, which is now developing further facilities in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
