THE SIMPLESMENTE Mulher(Simply Woman) fashion show that took place last weekend at Expoalgarve NERA in Loulé, organised by the Associação Oncológia do Algarve, was a runaway success.
The event which raised 3,195 euros towards the operating costs of the Algarve’s first mobile breast screening unit, attracted an audience of almost 400 people and enjoyed extensive TV and newspaper coverage.
Following some inspirational words from famous Portuguese actress and singer, Simone de Oliveira, who herself underwent a mastectomy 17 years ago, 12 women, all of whom have fought or are still fighting a battle against breast cancer, took to the catwalk.
The women chose to take part in the event to show that it is possible to have quality of life and take pride in looking good, despite the physical effects of treatment and surgery. The models showed tremendous dignity and courage, displaying eveningwear, swimwear and lingerie supplied by a selection of Algarve fashion stores.
