Silves woman’s murderer admits to two further killings

As he sits it out in jail, the self-confessed killer of a Silves woman has revealed that he killed two women before brutally murdering financial director Ana Rita Fernandes in the Angolan capital of Luanda in January.

Talking to the same national TV station to which he admitted raping Fernandes with the munitions loader of an AK47 rifle, Antunes Muheto has now put his hands up for the murder of his mother, as well as his former girlfriend.

According to Televisão Popular de Angola, the 39-year-old claims he killed his mother because she refused to give him the money he wanted.

Much later he killed his girlfriend because she had started to suspect that he had killed his mother, he added.

Curiously, both ‘killings’ were explained away as “illnesses” – in other words unsuspicious deaths, he told TPA.

The revelations have led national tabloid Correio da Manhã to try and contact Angolan authorities.

In today’s printed edition, Tânia Pires writes that inquiries to the commander of Luanda’s public order have so far proved unsuccessful.

Ana Rita Fernandes’ body was repatriated to Portugal in February and buried in her family’s hometown of Silves.
