Silves under siege

Guest speaker Jonathan Wilson will be giving a lecture on the siege and conquest of Silves in 1189 at the next meetings of the Algarve Archaeological Association (AAA) on March 2.

The first meeting is to be held at São Brás museum at 2.30pm with the second starting at 6.30pm at the Convento de São José in Lagoa.

A text bought in a market in France in 1837 known as the Codex of Aix and written in Medieval Latin has been translated into English by speaker Jonathan Wilson and will be presented to the audiences.  The text details the story of the siege and conquest of Silves and illustrates some of the momentous events in the history of Portugal.

Lectures are open to everyone at a cost of five euros per person for non members.
