Restaurants in Silves will be paying tribute to the town’s famous oranges during a gastronomic weekend event taking place between February 14 and 16.
The idea is that each restaurant presents a dish showcasing the potential of the town’s oranges in cuisine.
Thirteen restaurants are taking part in the ‘Fim de Semana com Sabor a Laranja’ (Orange-Flavoured Weekend) this year: Café Inglês, Casa Velha, Churrasqueira Valdemar, Marisqueira Rui, O Barradas, O Pina, Paulo’s Pizza, Ponte Romana, Porco Goloso, Recanto dos Mouros, Sushi Love, Ú Monchiqueiro 1 and Ú Monchiqueiro 2.
Several dishes that were served last year are returning, such as pork ribs in the oven with orange, pork loin with ‘migas’ (bread dish) and orange, fried catfish fillet with an orange reduction and tuna ‘muxama’ (a kind of salted tuna ham) with orange jam and almond.
But there will also be other interesting options, such as pizza with smoked pork loin and orange or duck a l’orange.
The town’s famous oranges will also be used to make a variety of mouthwatering desserts, from puddings and mousses to ‘tortas’ (traditional rolled-up Portuguese cakes).
Apart from enjoying delicious meals, you can also fill in a coupon for a chance to win a hot-air balloon ride or a weekend stay at a local hotel.
The gastronomic event will be taking place at the same time as the fourth ‘Mostra Silves Capital da Laranja’, which generally showcases the town’s deliciously juicy oranges at the Fissul building.
