Silves’ orange show, which was postponed in February due to the pandemic, will take place this weekend (April 16-18) in a new digital format.
‘Mostra Silves Capital da Laranja’ is an annual event that showcases the town’s famous oranges by bringing together local producers, craftspeople and restaurants.
Planned for this year’s edition are a conference, a series of events promoting local orange producers, tips on how to cook and make cocktails with the citrus fruit, and several music, dance and magic performances.
The show will open with the ‘Laranja XXI’ conference at 3pm on Friday (April 16), where specialists will discuss the issues and challenges that the sector is facing.
On Saturday, the spotlight will be turned on local orange producers who will be the stars of the show between 10am and midday, followed in the afternoon by a showcooking event that will use oranges to create a delicious dish and cocktail.
At 5pm, a musical performance by the Sociedade Filarmónica Silvense is planned, followed by a dance show by Associação STAM at 9.30pm.
Festivities will come to a close on Sunday, with local orange producers yet again taking centre stage between 10am and midday. At 1pm, the Algarve barmen association (ABA) will be providing a mouthwatering orange cocktail recipe.
The last stretch of the show will be aired on national television on TVI’s Somos Portugal show between 2pm and 8pm.
The event, which will be streamed on the council’s social media pages, will come to a close with performances by the Rancho Folclórico do Algoz at 9pm and local magician Miguel Alves at 10pm.
