Silves will be hosting its first night time urban down town cycling event on August 22, organised by Clube Xelb and ADAP Motorsport Lda.
Aimed at providing a spectator sport for the local population and visitors to the city, this cycling event will feature international cyclists from Spain and the UK racing down a prepared one kilometre route through the urban centre of the city.
From 4pm, more than 40 cyclists will start their down hill descents through the historical streets of the city from the castle to the town square near Praça Al Mouhatamid Ibn Abbad.
The main challenge is due to start at 9.30pm with cyclists facing extreme speeds, long stair cases, narrow streets, dark tunnels and long jumps.
According to the organisers, this event aims to contribute to the growth of this sport, especially by encouraging young people to do more sport.
Spectators can watch this event for free.
