Silves goes medieval this Friday

The 11th edition of Silves’ popular Medieval Fair begins today (August 8), bringing back the days of the Middle Ages to the historic former capital of the Algarve.
As always, the town centre will journey back in time to the days when ale flowed and jousting was commonplace. Handicrafts will be in plentiful supply, with an Arab-inspired atmosphere and lots of delicious things to eat.
Silves’ Fair is one of the summer’s greatest attractions and this one, running until August 17, promises to be every bit as good as all the others.
A daily ticket costs €2, while a bracelet giving full access to the fair can be purchased for €4.
Daily tickets are available at Fnac in Algarve Shopping or online at Ticketline, while the bracelet is available in council offices and in local shops.
Visitors can also purchase tickets for individual activities and shows – including the colourful jousting tournament and a Zaghareet belly dancing performance.
Open every evening from 6pm, the festival continues into the night, closing at 1am.
