Parkalgar Honda star Eugene Laverty celebrated a superb weekend by winning the 10th round of the World Supersport Championship at Silverstone.
The Northern Irishman came out on top of a nail-biting duel with title rival Kenan Sofuoglu, which was only decided in the Algarve team rider’s favour on the last lap.
That sixth victory from ten starts lifts Laverty back into second place in the overall standings, 17 points behind Sofuoglu and 18 clear of Joan Lascortz in third.
“It is nice to win our home race (the Parkalgar Honda team is Portuguese owned but UK operated) and it was a tough one,” Laverty said afterwards. “My Parkalgar Honda was brilliant; we ran faster lap times than expected and it was the best bike on
the day.”
British-Algarvean joy was further enhanced by Albufeira No2 rider Miguel Praia’s best-ever sixth placed finish from 12th on the grid, while ‘wildcard’ Parkalgar entry Christian Iddon showed genuine potential in crossing the line in 17th despite being held up early on during
the race.
The team now enjoys a deserved summer break before continuing its championship challenge at Germany’s Nurburg Ring on September 5.
