The great expectations harboured by the Parkalgar Honda team for the eighth round of the World Supersport Championship at Silverstone sadly remained unfulfilled.
After achieving a very promising second place on the starting grid during qualifying, star rider Sam Lowes committed a rare mistake to crash out of the race on lap three.
The 22-year-old Englishman was able to re-mount but failed to finish.
“I just want to say sorry to everyone who came here to cheer me on,” Lowes said.
“I made a mistake and ran into a rider in front of me early on in the race.”
On a more promising note, team mate Miguel Praia did extremely well to take the chequered flag in eighth, two places ahead of sister outfit Bogdanka’s James Ellison, after having started the race in 13th.
The next round of the competition, which climaxes in the Algarve in October, will take place at Germany’s famous Nuremburg Ring on September 4.
Meanwhile, Yamaha have announced that they will pull out of the Superbike World Championship at the end of this season forcing former Parkalgar Honda star Eugene Laverty, currently lying in fourth, to seek alternative employment. The decision will also come as a blow to Welshman Chas Davies who leads the Supersport title race for the team.
