Che Lagoense badminton star Pedro Martins took second place at last week’s Welsh Open in Cardiff.
The 19-year-old former European junior champion defeated Germany’s Lukas Schmidt, Scotsman Gordon Thomson, Beryno Wong from Malaysia and Russian world No51 Vladimir Malkov before losing out 19-21, 21-12, 9-21 to Denmark’s Kristian Nielsen in the final.
The performance should propel the young Algarvean into the world’s top 100 when the next rankings are published.
