Sidónio de Sousa Merlot

Sidónio de Sousa Merlot

There are not many Merlot varietals produced in Portugal and most of those on the market come from the Bairrada region.
One of Bairrada’s most venerable producers, Sidónio de Sousa, is well known for its dry sparkling wines and Baga varietal whilst this new-world style merlot is also worthy of note.
Intense ruby in colour and full-bodied with well rounded tannins, this is a lush and fruity wine with young berry notes on the nose with hints of toasted oak.
In the mouth, it is full bodied with a fresh and mildly spicy finish. A nice red that makes a perfect match for a juicy steak. Sensibly priced at around €8 or €9.
