For six weeks, some 1,200 horses will have passed through the Equestrian Centre at Vilamoura with an average of 900 horses per week participating in one of the most prestigious equestrian events in Europe.

With not inconsiderable amounts of prize money at stake, it is no wonder that top entrants from many countries converge on the highly rated and well-equipped centre.

This weekend will see competitors in all age groups with the Big Tour jump-offs on Friday and Sunday afternoons. The Atlantic Tour continues for the next two weeks culminating on the Sunday, March 8.

Last weekend John Whitaker MBE, silver medallist at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, was among the visitors. In July, the centre will stage the European Youth Championships. www.vilamouraequestriancentre.com/atlantic-tour
