Shopping centre to help overcome the crisis

Portimão’s new shopping centre Aqua Portimão is expected to generate around 4,500 direct and indirect jobs during its construction, which started in May and is expected to last until March 2011.

Once completed, the shopping centre, whose project was presented by architect Mário Sua Kay on October 22,  will provide 350 job vacancies at the site, 95 per cent of which to be filled by local residents.

At the presentation, Portimão Mayor Manuel da Luz said that the new shopping centre is an investment that represents the council’s focus on quality. He added: “As well as creating employment, it is an attractive project for the city and its thousands of visitors. It will contribute to the end of the crisis.”

Representing an investment of more than 100 million euros, Aqua Portimão will cover 35,000sqm and will include a supermarket from the Auchan group, more than 130 shops, 20 restaurants and 1,800 car parking spaces.
