GERMAN SUPERMARKET giant, ALDI, opened no less than five stores in the Algarve and Alentejo regions last Thursday: in Alcantarilha (pictured), Tavira, Portimão, Odemira and Santiago de Cacém.
The stores offer quality products at low prices and are likely to prove strong competition for existing cut-price stores like Lidl and Plus. The stores are open from 9am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday, and offer ample free parking facilities.
The Alcantarilha store was packed on the opening day, particularly with German shoppers, perhaps eager to purchase some familiar products from back home.
