Dozens of shoeboxes filled with gifts have started arriving as part of the Algarve’s 14th Annual Shoebox Drive for the Elderly.
Organisers would like to send a “big thank you” to everyone who has already delivered their shoebox, with “special thanks to the members and owners of the Balaia Village Golf Club and all the people who delivered to the Guia Christmas Fair last Saturday”.
There is still time to participate. “It is really easy,” say organisers. “All that is needed is a shoebox, lots of goodies, festive wrapping and a little imagination.”
Once you have located an empty shoebox (most shoe shops are happy to give them away), the next step is deciding whether your gift will be tailored to a man, woman, or couple.
Then start filling your box with individually wrapped presents that will brighten someone’s day.
Filled shoeboxes may be delivered to Castelo dos Sonhos (Silves) or the Holiday Inn Algarve (Armação de Pêra) on or before December 9.
Castelos dos Sonhos, a registered charity helping more than 200 elderly people living in the Silves area, wants to bring a sparkle to their festive period.
