Shoeboxes for elderly

This Christmas, volunteers at the Silves-based Castelo dos Sonhos charity, an association which helps underprivileged people in the local area, are asking for shoeboxes with essential items and gifts to be donated to the charity to be distributed among the elderly in the community.

This is the fifth annual shoebox drive specifically aimed at helping the more than 200 elderly members of the community that the charity supports, and organisers are asking for filled shoeboxes to be donated as gifts

for Christmas.

To take part in the drive, people are asked to fill a shoebox with a variety of gifts and essential items and then for the box to be wrapped and labelled for a man, woman or couple.

Suggested items to be placed in the box include: shampoo, soap, body lotion, hats, gloves and scarves, a sewing kit, shower cap, sweets and biscuits, a Christmas card, packet of tissues or even a small ornament.  Boxes cannot include medicines.

Complete boxes can be delivered to Castelo dos Sonhos in Silves or to the Holiday Inn Algarve in Armação de Pêra anytime between November 15 and December 1.
