Shoe trial

Muntadar al Zaidi, the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at US president George Bush, is to go on trial on December 31 accused of “aggression against a foreign head of state”.

If found guilty of the charges, the journalist could face a prison term of between five and 15 years. However reports in the media have suggested that he could be facing lesser charges due to the intense media interest in the case.

Meanwhile, according to the New York Times, sales at the Istanbul-based Baydan Shoe Company have increased dramatically after it claimed to have made the shoes that were thrown at the president.
