In what was perhaps any Algarvean’s worst nightmare, the Algarve’s EN125 is going to become a tolled road. Gantries have already been placed on several sections of the road and it’s only a matter of time before drivers have to start paying to use it.
The shocking news, which will likely have disastrous effects, was confirmed to the Resident.
Apparently, the idea is to make up for the losses of an 80% price reduction of the A22 motorway tolls, as well as help pay for the EN125’s ongoing roadworks.
An official source told us that a meeting is scheduled today (Friday) between authorities and the concession company that will manage the new toll system.
