About two tons of shellfish, namely cockles, clams and baby clams, which had been illegally caught, were confiscated by the coastal control unit of the GNR police during market inspections carried out in the areas of Portimão, Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António. In all three cases, the gatherers of the bivalves were not in possession of official licences or registration documents. The GNR returned the shellfish to their natural habitats in the Ria Formosa.
