Shanty Choir performance in aid of animal rescue centre

Olhão || A performance of the East Algarve International Shanty Choir is taking place on Friday, September 5 at the Bela Romão Croquet Club, near Olhão, from 7pm.
Two years ago Koos van Terphoven and his wife Rineke Hofman from the Netherlands decided to start a Shanty Choir. Koos is a qualified musician, teacher and conductor who has a passion for shanties. Rineke is the organiser and the choir’s photographer.
They began with six singers at their first meeting and now the Choir has 40 members of many different nationalities. The group has a number of musicians: accordionists, a guitarist, a saxophonist and a banjo player. However, they are always on the lookout for more – particularly violinists and keyboard players.
The songs they sing come from Ireland, UK, Germany, Holland, France, Portugal and Mexico. The choir will give a 45-minute performance, followed by a three-course meal prepared by Chef Sarah.
The price for the meal and show is €25 (exclusive of drinks) and the surplus from the evening will be donated to ADAPO (the Moncarapacho animal rescue centre).
