Serial burglar caught red-handed in Faro

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man believed to be behind around 20 burglaries in Faro.

He was finally caught red-handed by PSP police last Friday night (January 25) after stealing from a house in Lejana, Faro. He was arrested in possession of the property owner’s wallet.

Police had been investigating the string of burglaries for three months and had patrol cars spread out in areas that were considered high risk.

His ‘modus operandi’ was to enter houses through windows and doors that people had left open or unlocked. He would wait for night-time or the early hours of the morning to break in.

Says Correio da Manhã tabloid, he was never caught because he would flee the scene as soon as he heard any noise.

Police say the man has a history of criminal activity including burglaries and drug trafficking. He offered no resistance when he was caught and is being kept in preventive custody until trial.
