September slowdown

Overall occupancy rates in the Algarve during September were down by 2.1% in comparison to the same period in 2010 according to data accumulated by AHETA, the region´s hotels and tourist resorts association.

The overall level of occupancy was 74.4% and while the general levels were down there were marked increases in the number of Irish visitors, which were up by 13.9%, and UK visitors, which showed an increase of 9.9%.

However, German visitor numbers were down dramatically, falling by 32.9% in comparison to September 2010 and Portuguese visitors to the region were down by 10.6%.

The areas with the highest occupancy levels in the Algarve during September were Monte Gordo with 81.2% with the largest increases in occupancy levels occurring in Tavira (up 9%) and Carvoeiro/Armação de Pêra which recorded a 2.4% increase.
