The new bus terminal at Sete Rios, set to replace the Arco do Cego terminal, has a provisional opening date of September 22. Although this date has yet to be confirmed, it is thought to be the most likely ‘handover’ date – coincidentally, perhaps, this is also European car-free day. The terminal, located at the junction of Estrada das Laranjeiras and Rua Filipe de Mata, is very near to Praça de Espanha.
The new bus station – whose inauguration was announced last April by the previous President of Lisbon Câmara, Santana Lopes (now Prime Minister), is already in its final phase of development. The traffic lanes, parking, service and embarkation areas are now complete, as are most of the access and exit routes. The principal access routes for pedestrians at the junction of Rua Professor Lima Basto and Largo Marechal Humberto Delgado (Sete Rios) are still to be completed.
