Security plan on track

Algarve Seguro (Safe Algarve), a security plan for the region’s police, began operating on September 13.

Rui Pereira, Minister of Home Affairs, attended the launch ceremony of the project, which equipped security forces with technology to support its operational activity.

Measures include the provision of GPS for vehicles, connecting private alarm company personnel with the police forces and the automatic reading of licence plates with fixed and mobile CCTV cameras.

This project will see 225 GNR and PSP police vehicles equipped with GPS, geo-referencing so that the position of each police car is known, enabling them to respond quickly to any problem of public disorder or criminal activity.
