Sara Guerreiro, only recently sworn in as Secretary of State for Equality and Migrations resigned yesterday for personal reasons. The announcement which led to media speculation over whether the decision followed the controversy concerning the way Ukrainian refugees have been treated in the communist municipality of Setúbal. President Marcelo has guaranteed it had nothing to do with that. The personal reasons are linked to illness, a source for the government told Lusa. Indeed prime minister António Costa said he was ashamed by the speculation. “The minimum one asks in the difficult and painful moments of the lives of others is that there is respect”, he said. Ms Guerreiro’s replacement was sworn in within a matter of hours. She is Azores PS MP Isabel Rodrigues.
