Secretary of State for Energy underlines strategy for producing “lots of cheap hydrogen”

Secretary of State for Energy João Galamba has reiterated the government’s focus on ‘relaunching’ the economy within the framework of its pledge to become ‘carbon neutral by 2050’.

Thus the plan is to start producing hydrogen, comparatively cheaply, and export it. Says Galamba, the EN-H2 strategy will create a whole new industry as well as much-needed jobs. Tenders for the first hydrogen project in Sines are open till July 17.

He told a meeting in Lisbon today: “We want to produce a lot of hydrogen, and cheaply…”

The Sines project represents an investment of roughly 2.8 billion euros, and will, according to Galamba, put Sines and Portugal on the map with regards to this industry.
