The Algarve suffered its worst May in hotel occupancy for the last 16 years, revealed the association representing hotels in the region.
According to the Association of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation in the Algarve (AHETA), hotels recorded a 55.2% occupancy rate in May, the worst level of room occupancy since 1996.
AHETA records show that in comparison to May 2011, May this year provided a 3.7% decrease in visitors.
Speaking to the Lusa news agency, Elidérico Viegas, President of AHETA, said that despite the decrease in occupancy ,“the recovery of the UK market has been successfully offsetting losses in the domestic and German markets.”
