Second-hand clothes are being sold at Auchan supermarkets in Faro and Portimão as part of a partnership between the French retail group and Portuguese online second-hand clothes store MyCloma.
Entitled ‘ReUse’, these spaces allow shoppers to browse through and purchase a wide range of second-hand clothes.
The opening of the two new spaces in the Algarve brings the number of ‘ReUse’ spaces in Portugal to nine.
Anyone who would like to ‘make a donation’ should make a request online at www.mycloma.com for their clothes to be collected for free. For every 15 items donated in “saleable condition”, clients receive €10 to spend at any Auchan store and another €15 to use on the MyCloma website.
“The opening of these new ReUse spaces shows how robust this partnership with MyCloma is,” said Arlete Paiva, head of textile at Auchan Retail Portugal.
“Promoting a circular economy and reducing waste is a commitment Auchan Retail Portugal has made and this collaboration with MyCloma, which started in 2020, allows us to once again strengthen our goals towards sustainability and fighting textile waste,” Paiva said, adding that the group aims to open more ‘ReUse’ spaces at other Auchan supermarkets.
“ReUse is a project we are very proud of and which we have been working on tirelessly every day to ensure its continued success,” said Ana Raquel Azevedo, who is in charge of the project at MyCloma.
“The importance of access to second-hand clothing, independent of its geographical location, is for us fundamental in this journey to make second-hand the first option,” she added.
