The Portuguese Environmental Agency (APA) has released a statement assuring beachgoers that the seaweed that has been washing ashore in the Algarve recently does not pose a risk to their health – even if it is foul-smelling.
Explains the agency, these occurrences happen every year at Algarve beaches and tests have shown that the seawater is safe to swim.
This week also saw university researchers calling on citizens to help study “invasive seaweed” at Algarve beaches (click here).
