The new musical season at the São Lourenço Cultural Centre in Almancil starts this month, featuring two classical concerts with performances from violinist Debra Fast and pianist Sandro Ivo Bartoli.
On September 23, they will perform pieces by Vitali, Bach, Caltabiano and Franck and on September 26 Sandro Ivo Bartoli takes to the stage on his own to perform compositions by Bach, Liszt, Chopin, Rota and Franck.
Sandro Ivo Bartoli was born in Pisa, Italy, and studied at the State Conservatoire and at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
He has played throughout Europe and the US with major orchestras and has recorded for radio and TV.
Debra Fast was born in Canada and studied both the violin and piano and graduated from the University of British Columbia’s School of Music in 1998.
For the past three years, she has been performing with Sandro Ivo Bartoli and together the husband and wife team has crossed the world twice, performing the work of many composers.
Meanwhile, from October 12 to 17, piano master classes will be given by Paul Crossley. Top piano students from Portuguese music schools have been selected to participate in the classes which are open to the public. Two concerts by the students will be performed on October 14 and 17.
All concerts begin at 7.30pm, with wine and canapés served at 7pm and during the interval, and tickets cost 25 euros for guests and members of Amigos.
