At a recent meeting of the committee of Bowls Algarve, it was decided that the current league of 14 teams would be split for the coming season 2017/2018. Two further teams will be joining the league making the burden of competitive bowling a heavy one. Hence the decision to split the league into two divisions, each having eight teams.
The initial set up will be one team from each of the clubs plus the highest other team. At the end of each season the lowest team will drop down and the highest in the second division will be promoted. Cameron Cup and Super 10’s competitions will revert to league format rather than the knock out format of this year.
On Wednesday, March 1, Balaia Bowls Club played their Bowls Algarve League matches. The Whalers played at home in the morning against Valverde winning two rinks. During the afternoon, the PODS Team won two rinks against Alvor Greens. This maintains the PODS in 14th place in the League and Whalers move up to sixth place.
Many of the Saturday, March 4 matches were rained off and are currently being rescheduled, a difficult task with so little time left until the end of the season on March 18, and many visiting teams starting to arrive.
Balaia welcomes bowlers of all levels, whether new or experienced, and has its roll up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.45am for 10am start.
