Maritime authorities have resumed searches for the 63-year-old German tourist who was swept out to sea by a wave from the beach of Achada da Cruz, in Madeira, on Sunday.
Hopes for improved weather conditions are high, as waves are expected to stay below 3-4 metres today, and the wind is down. But expectations of finding the tourist alive have all but faded.
Félix Marques, head of the Funchal ports authority, said he believes “the body was dragged out to sea and, due to the strong tides, pulled to the ocean floor”.
