Monte Gordo’s seafront area will undergo a €40 million urban and environmental revamp in a public-private partnership between Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA) Câmara and a consortium of five private companies.
According to VRSA Câmara, the project will be developed by Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill and it is predicted that the works will start in the first half of 2011.
The work will start at Praia do Coelho, opposite the Monte Gordo camping park, and will extend to the roundabout by the bridge area.
The plan announced includes the creation of a wooden walkway along the sand, the creation of eight beach huts and the construction of underground car parks, with capacity for more than 800 cars.
Gardens and a paved area with shopping and leisure areas and restaurants are also planned.
