Quarteira city will be marking Dia do Pescador, or fisherman’s day (May 31), with a special celebratory weekend, including a seafood tasting festival and live music starting today (Friday).
In a bid to revive fishing traditions, visitors to Quarteira will be able to indulge in typical seafood dishes prepared by the local fishermen’s families at their eateries located at Praça do Mar until Sunday.
The event will be an opportunity to try the flavours of the sea in an environment surrounded by tradition and culture.
The highlight of the weekend will take place tomorrow (Saturday) from 6pm when the local population and visitors to the city come together to pull in the fishing nets on the beach, a spectacle that is “much loved because of its strong sense of tradition”, say organisers.
Live musical performances, including popular Portuguese music and fado, will take place daily from 6pm.
