Olhão is staging the popular annual Festival do Marisco, one of the biggest seafood gastronomy events in Portugal, at Jardim Pescador Olhanense from August 8 to 12.
Each year, the festival attracts thousands of people from across Portugal as well as many foreigners keen to taste the many delicacies of the sea.
Dishes on offer include Arroz de Marisco (seafood rice), Açorda de Marisco (seafood bread stew), Cataplana (seafood steamed in special copper pan) and Feijoada de Búzios (whelk and bean stew).
The best of shellfish and seafood, such as spider crab, lobster, prawns, whelks and cockles, will be cooked in all sorts of ways to bring the best quality and variety of dishes to visitors.
Complementing the gastronomy on offer are stalls selling typical Algarve sweets, crafts and music.
Each day sees a headline music act, with highlights being Tony Carreira, the best-selling Portuguese music artist, on August 8, Portuguese band GNR on the 9th and Bandit Beatles (tribute band) on the 10th.
Other artists include Portuguese singer Rui Veloso on August 11 and Calypso band from Brazil closing the festival on the 12th.
The festival is open daily from 6.30pm to 1.30am.
Tickets, purchasable at the door, cost €8 for adults and €3 for children aged seven to 12. Admission is free for children up to the age of six.
