Sea delights in Tavira Festival

Tavira’s popular ‘Festival de Gastronomia do Mar’ starts once again this weekend (Friday, May 2), involving a string of restaurants all selling “the best the sea has to offer”.
The three weeks-long festival (ending on Sunday May 25) is being celebrated throughout the borough with 13 eateries promoting octopus, squid, traditional ‘bacalhau’ salt-cod, tuna, sardines and mouth-watering combinations of shellfish.
And this year, anyone going along gets a chance of winning a stay at Pousada do Convento da Graça, in one of the hotels of the MGE group, or at the elegant Casa Viana Guesthouse.
Says the local council, the event is seen as “a reinforcement of UNESCO’s decision to consider the Mediterranean Diet World Intangible Heritage”.
