Sea and space connection

Officials from Sagres have taken part in a twinning ceremony with local politicians in Cape Canaveral in Florida, in a bid to promote cultural, social, economic and tourist opportunities between the two towns. According to the President of Vila do Bispo Câmara, Gilberto Viegas, “this twinning is a celebration of the importance of Sagres, known to the world as the home of the Portuguese maritime discoverers, and Cape Canaveral, known as the world capital of space discovery.” Cape Canaveral Mayor, Rocky Randels, was on hand for the ceremony, as were Faro Civil Governor, José Valentim Rosado, President of the Assembleia Municipal de Vila do Bispo, Henrique Nuno Pinheiro, and Luis Paixão, from the Junta de Freguesia de Sagres.
