Scruffts is a must

Everyone’s favourite non-pedigree dog show, Scruffts, is back and this year promises to be the biggest and best yet. Organised by the APAA animal association, the show is one of the Algarve’s most popular events and is now in its sixth year. The non-pedigree event will be held at the Fissul centre in Silves, on Sunday May 9.

The day begins at 9am and the dog show itself starts at 11am, with the first of 14 classes ranging from most handsome dog, prettiest bitch, most appealing eyes, fancy dress, the dog the judges would most like to take home, “best six legs” and many more. This year’s show will be appraised by a Portuguese judge and an officer from the RSPCA. Trophies and other prizes will be awarded at the end of each class for the first, second, third and fourth places.

Linda Pixley from the APAA told us: “The APAA invites everyone to come along and bring their dogs for a great day out with lots of fun. There is no need to book in advance. The Fissul centre is undercover, so the event will go ahead whatever the weather.”

• Any company wishing to sponsor a trophy for any of the 14 classes at the show can contact Linda Pixley on fax 282 471 347 or mobile 919 368 726.
